rubik, 2002
Overlooked objects in the world around us can suddenly take on new meaning as we search for answers to questions about our culture and humanity.  These objects commonly lose relevance because we lack the patience to decipher their often cryptic language.  Rubik’s cube holds a place in our childhood memories as an object that we discarded, colors scrambled and labeled mundane, when we tired of trying to find its solution.  It’s not so much that we gave up on trying to make all the sides match, but rather that we got lost trying to solve it.  Over a ten-hour period, one frustrated individual tries to unscramble the puzzle.  This journey is played back on eight flickering video monitors, each becoming solid it progresses toward a solution.
